How to make a quote

  1. Fill in your business details and upload your logo. These are remembered on this device for every future quote.
  2. Add the client and check the quote number, date and how long the price is valid.
  3. List the work as line items with quantity and rate. Be specific: "Homepage design, 2 revision rounds" beats "Design".
  4. Add any discount and tax. The discount comes off the subtotal before tax is calculated.
  5. Print or save as a PDF. Click "Print / Save as PDF" and choose "Save as PDF" as the printer. Only the quote is printed, not the form.

What to include in a quote

  • Who it's from and who it's for, with contact details for both.
  • A unique quote number and date, so you can match the quote to an invoice later.
  • Itemized work and prices. Clients accept a total more readily when they can see what makes it up.
  • Taxes and discounts shown separately.
  • An expiry date. Costs change, and 14–30 days is typical.
  • Terms: payment schedule, deposit, what's out of scope, and how changes are handled.
  • A place to accept, so a signed quote becomes a simple agreement.

Quote vs estimate vs invoice

DocumentWhenIs the price fixed?
EstimateBefore work, early stageNo, it's an approximate guide
QuoteBefore work, scope agreedYes, for the stated scope and period
InvoiceAfter work (or at milestones)It's a request for payment

You can use this tool for estimates too. Change the notes to say the figures are an estimate and may change once the scope is final.

Tips for quotes that get accepted

  • Send it fast. A quote sent the same day signals that you'll be reliable on the job.
  • Offer options. A basic, standard and premium version lets clients choose how to say yes rather than whether to.
  • Ask for a deposit (25–50% is common) on larger jobs before you start.
  • Follow up after three to five days if you haven't heard back.

Not sure what to charge? Work out your rate with the hourly rate calculator or your product prices with the profit margin calculator.

Your data stays on your device

Everything you type, including your logo, is stored only in your browser's local storage. Nothing is uploaded to our servers. That also means your quotes won't follow you to another device or browser, so save a PDF of anything you need to keep.

Frequently asked questions

Is this quote maker really free?

Yes. There’s no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of quotes. The site is supported by ads.

How do I save my quote as a PDF?

Click “Print / Save as PDF”, then choose “Save as PDF” (or “Microsoft Print to PDF”) as the printer. On a phone, use the share or print menu and choose to save as a PDF.

Can I add my logo?

Yes. Upload a PNG, JPG, SVG or WebP under 400 KB. It’s stored on your device and appears on every quote until you remove it.

Is the discount applied before or after tax?

Before. The discount comes off the subtotal, and tax is calculated on the discounted amount, which is how most sales tax and VAT rules treat discounts given at the time of sale.
